課程介紹
" This course is designed to introduce students to North Indian music, in particular, the art of tabla (North Indian drum). This hands on course covers the techniques of playing tabla and also covers the principles of tala (measured rhythmic count) system, along with notation and various traditional compositions. Selected viewing and reading materials will be provided to students for deepening their understanding of Indian music.

課程內容
The instructor would put in his utmost efforts in helping students better their skills and students are encouraged to approach the instructor to deepen their knowledge of the music.
 
During the first session, students will be introduced to the essential sounds of tabla consisting of both drums. A fixed composition called Kaida in a rhythmic cycle called Teentaal of 16 beats from Delhi school of tabla will be taught to the students.
 
"Students will learn 8 sections of the Kaida from Delhi school culminating into a three phrased movement called tihai (finale)
 
 A popular Kaida from the Farukkabad school of tabla will be taught to the students along with 2-3 fixed variations.
 
The remainder of the variations of the Farukkabad Kaida will be taught to the students culmirjating with a finale tihai.
 
Students will be taught the intricate counting system of Indian classical music along with its history and traditional nuances. Also the six schools of tabla will be explained to the students regarding similarities and differences. This will be an interactive session where students can engage by asking the instructor questions to facilitate dwelling deeper into the music
 
All students have to perform a midterm performance fur the class consisting the Farukkabad Kaida in the presence of the instructor. This has to be performed memorized and at a steady clear pace.  "
 
Students will be taught a faster paced composition called Rela in Teentaal of 16 beats from the
Lucknow school of tabla. This session will consist of Rela and 2-3 variations.
 
The remainder of the fixed variations of the Rela will be taught culminating into a finale (tihai)
 
Students will be taught numerous rhythmic cycles like Roopak (7 beats), Jhaptaal (10 beats), Ek taal (12 beats), Chachar taal (II beats), and Ashta roopak 8 1/2 beats. Students will learn the format and counting patterns.
 
Material covered over the course of the sessions will be reviewed and rehearsed in preparation for the upcoming recital on October 2'd.
 
This recital showcase the students skills and what they have leamt in 10 sessions with group and individual performances. The instructor will perform a tabla solo along with a guest artist towards the second part of the recital.
